First and Second Grade Curriculum

Grade Level: Grade 1
Math

Arithmetic, Number, and Operations
•    Conceptual understanding of whole numbers to 100
•    Conceptual understanding of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4
•    Able to compare whole numbers from 0-100 using more or less
•    Able to add and subtract one digit numbers
•    Quick recall of addition and subtraction to 12
•    Able to use patterns, skip counting by 5 and 10
•    Understanding monetary value by naming coins and values of coins: add coins to $1.00

Geometry and Measurement
•    Sort and classify shapes by two or three attributes
•    Rectangle rectangular prisms, cylinders and spheres
•    Measure using standard and nonstandard measuring devices
•    Tell time to the hour and half hour
•    Determine elapsed and accrued time using days, months, and hours

Functions and Algebra
•    Identify and extend numeric and nonnumeric patterns
•    Conceptual understanding of equality (e.g. 2+?=7)

Data, Statistics, and Probability
•    Able to create and interpret pictograph, tally chart, and table
•    Able to create diagrams, models, or tally charts to solve problems
•    Able to generate a hypothesis, collect, organize and display data to answer the question or hypothesis
•    Use experimental probability to describe the chance of an event being more or less likely

Grade Level:  Grade 2

Math

Arithmetic, Number and Operation
•    Conceptual understanding of whole numbers to 100
•    Conceptual understanding of 1/2, 1/3, 1/4
•    Able to compare whole numbers from 0-100 using more and less
•    connects number words and numerals to the quantities they represent from 0-100
•    Able to add and subtract one and two digit numbers
•    Quick recall of addition and subtraction facts to 20
•    Able to use patterns, skip counting and multiples of 5 and 10 to solve problems and simplify computations
•    Understands monetary value by naming coins and values of coins; adding coins to $1.99; making change to $1.00; represent  $1.00 using a decimal point

•    Sort and classify shapes by two or more attributes
•    Recognize rectangular and triangular prisms, cylinders and spheres
•    Conceptual understanding of perimeter and area demonstrated by using manipulative to surround and cover a shape
•    Measures using standard and nonstandard measuring devices
•    Tell time to five minutes
•    Determine elapsed and accrued time using days, months and hours

•    Identify and extend numeric and nonnumeric patterns
•    Conceptual understanding of equality (e.g. 2+? =7)

•    Able to generate a hypothesis, collect, organize and display data and make observations and draw conclusions about hypothesis
