WES Music Program

The goal of the WES music program is to teach our students to enjoy and appreciate music! Our music program provides exposure to the fundamentals of singing, music literacy, composition, listening, analysis, movement, improvisation and performance.
All students at WES have a weekly general music class: kindergarteners for 30 minutes and grades 1-6 for 40 minutes. Each class is structured around a standards-based, sequential curriculum in order to provide consistent and ongoing opportunities for student success.
In addition to general music class, WES offers optional brass and woodwind instrumental lessons. Participating students receive one 30 minute small group instrumental lesson per week and the opportunity to join the Level 1 and Level 2 Bands. Each band meets weekly, before school, for 40 minutes.
The Sunrise Chorus offers a fun choral experience for students in grades 4-6 who love to sing! The chorus meets once weekly, before school, for 40 min.
WES enjoys several all school sings throughout the school year. These sings provide a strong sense of school community, as well as a wonderful way for siblings and students regardless of grade level, to sing together, their commonly learned songs. Parents are always welcome to join our all school sings!
WES provides many performance opportunities throughtout each school year, specificaly, four grade level Musical Assemblies are held in the school gym, where students focus on singing, dance, and instrumental performance, and the Outdoor Unified Arts May Day Festival, held in late May, where students focus on traditional dance and song, featuring the May Pole Dance, the Sword Dance, and various other types of dance from cultures around the world.
Students at WES love music and by offering a weekly general music class, instrumental lessons, band, and chorus, WES provides each student many different ways in which to be involved.
